Lithology Estate Vineyard St. Helena AVA
Located at the base of Howell Mountain, in the St. Helena AVA, Lithology Estate is farmed by Silverado Farming Co. and is certified organic (CCOF). The vineyard, resembling a small valley surrounded by creeks, is a protected microclimate where cool airflow and moderate temperatures ensure the fruit ripens slowly and evenly.
Comprised of two distinct sections, the lower portion is a two-acre block of Sauvignon Blanc is planted to Clones 1 and 18, with a small amount of aromatic Musqué and Semillon. The upper portion of the vineyard was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 2021. The site reaches 700 ft in elevation and is comprised of shallow, mineral-rich soils that rest on igneous rocks and materials weathered from volcanic ash. This well-drained soil, high in mineral content, is ideal for cultivating Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in the coming years.
Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Oakville AVA
To Kalon, an ancient Greek phrase meaning highest beauty is nestled at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, situated on a gentle sloping alluvial fan. First planted in 1868 by Hamilton Crabb, it was acquired by Beckstoffer in 1993. Today it is arguably Napa Valley’s most iconic vineyard and is referenced for its world class quality.
Bale loam soils with ancient streambeds. With more topsoil and slightly cooler temperatures, Lithology allows for a longer hang time to achieve a wine profile that is beautifully opulent, with a rounder mouthfeel, plush palate, and broad tannins. A darker fruited expression with remarkable depth, complexity, and longevity.
Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard St. Helena AVA
This historic vineyard was established in 1858 by Dr. George Belden Crane, and acquired by Beckstoffer in 1997, replanted in 1998. It is situated on the west side of Highway 29 in the heart of St. Helena and celebrated for its exceptional, rocky terrain and gravelly loam soils.
The vineyard sits alongside an ancient riverbed, very alluvial soils, rich with rock and silt deposits. Sulphur Creek runs along its northern border, and a rock quarry defines its southern edge — the source of the vineyard's most extreme rocky soils, giving way to gravelly loam further from the quarry face. For Lithology, this vineyard showcases a marriage between opulence and structure, with layers of dark fruits and distinct minerality in the finished wines.
Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard St. Helena AVA
One of the oldest heritage vineyard sites in California, Las Piedras traces its history back to the original Mexican land grants in the 1840s. Located at the base of Spring Mountain, it became the first vineyard planted in what is now the St. Helena appellation. Beckstoffer purchased the property in 1983 and planted it to Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vineyard was named for its distinct rocky, gravelly, fast-draining soils that are evenly dispersed across the vineyard and force the vines to truly struggle. The rocky nature of the vineyard draws parallels with Bordeaux’s left bank, and the low-yielding vines produce an elegant and structured, high-toned, black-fruited aromatic Cabernet Sauvignon.
