In comparison to the Dr. Crane, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Lithology Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is more floral and elegant, yet still brings that classic Lithology richness and sexiness. Cassis, crushed flowers, violets, and camphor define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied, with great tannins and the balance and depth to evolve for 25-30 years.
Considered the first vineyard planted in Saint Helena in the 1840’s, this special site sits right at the head of the alluvial fan created by Sulphur Creek where the Mayacamas Mountains transition to the valley floor. As a result , its soils are exceedingly rocky, compelling Andy’s vineyard crew to call the vineyard “las piedras,” Spanish for stones or pebbles.
